UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION DELEGATION ENGAGES HON.HARUNA IDDRISU ON KEY ISSUES.

Accra, 24th February, 2025 – The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has assured the leadership of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) of government’s commitment to integrating UEW-trained teachers into the Ghana Education Service (GES). This assurance was given during a courtesy call by a UEW delegation, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, on February 24, 2025.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu acknowledged concerns regarding the employment of UEW graduates and pledged to address the issue to ensure their skills are effectively utilized within the Education Sector. The delegation also raised pressing challenges, including land and encroachment, staff shortages, legal matters, and governance issues. The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to resolving these concerns, particularly by ensuring the protection of UEW’s lands and also facilitating staff recruitment processes.
Additionally, the Minister announced the upcoming launch of the National Research Fund to enhance academic research and innovation. He also confirmed that all University-governing Council would be reconstituted by March 30, 2025, in compliance with legal and constitutional requirement.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu emphasized government’s dedication to expanding access to higher education, improving institutional governance, and ensuring financial sustainability. He expressed enthusiasm for continued collaboration with UEW to drive educational excellence in Ghana.
This engagement underscores the Ministry’s commitment to addressing key issues affecting UEW and ensuring that its graduates contribute meaningfully to national development.
