National Education Forum Consultation

National Education Forum in Ghana: Mandate
  • National Education Forum in Ghana: Established to foster inclusive dialogue on education challenges and opportunities.
  • Committee Formation: An eight-member committee, chaired by Professor George K. T. Oduro, was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama to develop a report and plan within two weeks.
Forum Objectives:
  • Establish a central theme and sub-themes for discussions.
  • Identify key stakeholders.
  • Propose a venue and date.
  • Gather public input, particularly on the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
  • Draft a national education policy framework with an action plan within three weeks post-forum.
Government Commitment:
  • President Mahama has pledged to implement the forum’s outcomes as feasible.
  • GNAT Participation: The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) will highlight funding challenges, including debts to WAEC, School Feeding program financing issues, and arrears in the capitation grant.
  • National Teaching Council (NTC): Responsible for regulating the teaching profession, accrediting teacher education programs, and promoting professional development.
