UNESCO designated Accra as World Book Capital for 2023 and we held the National Launch at the Accra International Conference Center yesterday, 24th April 2023.
The launch was hosted by Deputy Education Minister, Hon. Minister Rev. John Ntim-Fordjour.
Joining His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was the keynote speaker, was UNESCO Director General Her Excellency Ms. Audrey Azouley, the Mayor of Accra Hon. Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, members of the Ga Traditional Council, members of the publishing and book industries in Ghana, as well as students from various schools in Accra.
During the course of the year, there will be many activities that will encourage reading and literacy across the country, including targeting marginal groups that have levels of illiteracy, including women, youth, street children and persons with disabilities.
I am honored to be a part of this with all our partners and stakeholders and believe our collaborative efforts will yield a huge statement for our country.
